Bobići or Frmentonova Minestra
A simple one-pot dish made from corn, either young milk corn, also called bobići (in July, August) or frmenton. The word bobići is believed to originate from the word boba (also bobba), which would mean a thin soup or minestra, poor in ingredients and primarily for the poor. The word frmenton comes from the Italian word frumento or also frumentone, formentone, which means grain or corn. The winter version of bobići is therefore called frmentonova minestra, as it uses dried corn kernels that need to be soaked before cooking.
Bobotie
Bobotie, a renowned South African dish, closely resembles the British shepherds pie in preparation but differs in one significant detail: the amount of spices added. In bobotie, the flavors of numerous spices intertwine, and traditionally, dried fruit, tangy chutney, and an egg custard are added to the seasoned meat, generously poured over the ingredients before baking.
